Coaching for whip-smart women who are ready to really see what they’re capable of

Feel Like You’ve Done Everything "Right" ... But It's Not Enough?

You don’t need more hustle. Or maybe you do, but we’ll get to that. What you really need first is a way to untangle the thought patterns that drive your feelings and actions, so you can recalibrate to get the results that you want. This is where cognitive behavioral coaching comes in.

This Might Sound Familiar ...

  • You’re successful on paper, but inside, you’re exhausted and unsure what’s next
  • You’re starting to freak out about how long you’ll have to keep going as-is to get to that next thing (the promotion, the vacation home, the marriage proposal, the body size) that will surely make you feel better (it won’t)
  • You’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, and feel like you know what you’re “supposed” to do but don’t know why you’re not doing it
  • You show up for everyone else, but can’t seem to carve out meaningful space for yourself (crying in your car in the Whole Foods parking lot after SoulCycle doesn’t count)
  • You crave change… but the idea of disrupting your day-to-day also feels terrifying (people will be Mad At Me™)

If any of that hits home, you’re not alone. For the last decade I’ve worked with brilliant women to help them rethink how they think so they can actually live a life that feels real and authentic to them.

Imagine If You Could ...

  • Make decisions without needing the whole group chat to weigh in first
  • Do the big thing you really want to do, without being afraid of looking stupid or weird
  • Know you’ve got your own back, even if and when you make a mistake
  • Set boundaries without lingering guilt
  • Stop having that same fight with your partner over and over
  • Actually enjoy and appreciate what you already have while reaching for more (if that’s what you want!)

That’s what this work is about. You will learn how to be in charge of your own brain, and it will sound dramatic for me to say this but I’m going for it anyway: It will set you free.

Meet Emily: Your Personal Guide to Cognitive Transformation

I’m Emily Shutt – cognitive behavioral coach, writer, speaker, and someone who knows what it’s like to check all the boxes, be the best, rise through the ranks, stand out but not too much, achieve all the things, and continually stuff down this nagging question: why doesn’t this feel better?

Clarity is rarely a lightning-bolt moment; it’s almost always the result of a series of decisions and experiments, and the willingness to try and fail. That’s not very Instagrammable but it’s the truth.

I don’t have all the answers, but I know how to ask the right questions. I believe we almost always already know what we want, but have been taught to believe it’s not an option for us. You are capable of so much more than you realize, and you’re allowed to want to see what that actually is.

I am a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation, and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners. I have over a decade of experience working with hundreds of smart, funny and talented clients who inspire me every day. I specialize in the areas of money, relationships, and wellbeing, but I am well-equipped to explore alongside you whatever’s on your mind.

When I’m not working with clients, I’m either taking care of adoptable pups at the shelter (there is an alternate timeline version of me who just lives on a ranch in Montana with, like, 93 rescue dogs), playing Stardew Valley (yes, I’ve achieved Perfection, and thank you, it is a big deal), or analyzing Bob’s Burgers deep cuts.

    Working Together

This is not a quick fix or a “10-step formula”. Nor is it an unending expensive convoluted process that I’m the secret gatekeeper of.

This is a space to finally hear yourself and notice the patterns that are tripping you up so that you can rewrite your story. Thanks to neuroplasticity, unconscious patterns developed over decades can be rewired consciously in a much shorter timeframe.

So let’s say as an example you’ve been killing yourself bending over backwards for everyone else for 32 years. The good news is that with intentional practice, it will not take another 32 years to learn to set boundaries; it’s not a one-for-one exchange. The bad news is that if you do nothing to change it, nothing will change. It will continue for your whole life. You don’t deserve to go down like that.

I leverage science-backed strategies rooted in positive psychology and peak performance, with a blend of intuition, to help you chart your course forward. It’s not about me telling you what to do; it’s about rediscovering how to live and make decisions driven by your own values and priorities.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    So glad you asked!

I'm ready to sign up now! Do we have to do a Clarity Call first?

LOVE the enthusiasm! Honestly though, coaching is not automatically a great fit for everyone at every point in their life, and that’s okay! I’ve been doing this for a long time, and the (free, zero-pressure!) Clarity Call helps us both to understand what you’re looking for from coaching and whether I’m the right person to support you. Ultimately this saves you money and frustration if it’s not the right fit, and I will do my best to refer you in the right direction if that’s the case! It’s all in the interest of making sure you’re getting the right kind of support.

How long do clients usually work with you?

This is a great question, with several answers! The range is anywhere from several weeks to several years, and the average tends to be 6-12 months. It all depends on how frequently clients prefer to meet, and the type of work they’re focusing on! My goal is to help you build tools that will support you long-term without me, not to keep you dependent on meeting with me forever!

What is the ICF and why should I care?

The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the foremost global governing body overseeing the coaching profession. Coaching is not regulated the way that other industries like therapy, finance, medicine and law are. And not to spill the tea too quickly here, but there are a lot of random people on the internet who call themselves “life coaches” after taking an “online certification course” over a “long weekend” (if they even bother to do that). It’s not illegal, but in my view, it’s unethical. Proceed with caution. If a coach is not ICF-accredited, you’re probably investing in an overpriced cheerleader at the end of the day. Ask questions, look for real experience and results (ICF credentialing often takes years of training and experience, so that’s a good place to start!), and trust your gut.

What happens after I schedule a Clarity Call?

Once you’ve scheduled a free, 15-minute Clarity Call, we’ll use that time to get to know each other, talk through what you’d like to work on, any questions you have about the coaching process, logistics, pricing, my background, and anything else that will help you decide if this is the right fit for you! From there, if you’d like to move forwad, sessions are conducted on Zoom (or whatever your preferred video conferencing software is; I’m flexible!) at a cadence that works well for you. Most clients like to meet weekly or bi-weekly, but I have others who prefer longer stretches between sessions, depending on what they’re focusing on.
